What Data Analyst roles emphasize
- SQL querying & joins
- Exploratory data analysis
- Dashboarding & storytelling
- A/B test interpretation
- Statistical literacy
- Stakeholder communication
Tools & platforms
- SQL
- Python
- Excel
- Tableau
- Power BI
- Looker
- dbt
Typical responsibilities
- Turn messy datasets into decision-ready insights
- Build recurring KPI dashboards for business partners
- Partner with PMs and marketers on experiment readouts
- Document metric definitions and data quality issues
Resume tips
- Lead bullets with business outcomes (revenue, conversion, cycle time), not tool lists alone
- Name the stack you actually used (warehouse, BI tool, language)
- Show experiment or funnel analysis when the JD mentions growth/product analytics
- Keep a clean single-column layout so ATS parsers capture SQL/Python keywords
ATS recommendations
- Mirror JD metric names only when you truly measured them
- Put core tools in a dedicated Skills section and again in experience bullets
- Avoid charts/tables for body text — ATS often drops them
- Use the exact job title variant from the posting in your headline when truthful
Common mistakes
- Generic “analyzed data” bullets with no metrics or domain
- Listing every BI tool without depth on the ones in the JD
- Hiding SQL behind vague “database experience”
- No mention of stakeholder delivery or decision impact
